Review:

***** 5 out of 5 stars

City Of Glass is the third book in The Mortal Instruments series. It is about sixteen year old Clary Fray, who has not long found out that she is a shadowhunter, her mother is still in a coma, her father is still at large and becoming more powerful everyday, her best friend is a vampire who can walk in the sun and she is still trying to come to terms with not being able to be with the boy she loves. Clary has to travel to Idris, to find a person who she has been told can help wake up her mother. After getting left behind, having to create a portal of her own, landing in the Lake Lynn and getting poisoned, meeting dark handsome Sebastian, her quest finally begins. Sebastian escorts her to Ragnor Fell's (he is a Warlock who is apparently able to help her mother), when they arrive Clary finds Magnus Bane (another Warlock from New York) there in his place, he tells her where she can find the spellbook she needs to help her mother wake up. Jace being the only one who knows where the Wayland Manor is takes Clary there to retrieve the spellbook, while they are there the book is not the only thing that they find. They discover an angel locked in the basement, who tells them what sort of things Valentine had done to his children before they were born. By the time they get back to the city, it is being attacked by demons, after the fighting ends she is able to deliver the book to Magnus who disappears with it. The Clave are then faced with a huge decision fight along side the downworlders against Valentine or bow down and allow him to take control. As the Clave and downworlders prepare for the biggest battle of there lives, Jocelyn now awake turns up and tells Clary the truth about everything, then a huge battle commences, while Jace goes after Sebastian, who he manages to kill and Clary goes to stop Valentine from summoning Raziel. Clary manages to get the angel on her side instead of Valentine's, he kills Valentine and grants Clary a request.

I thought that this book was just as excellent at its predecessors in this series, I like the descriptions of Idris, the wonderful way the author describes it brings this hidden world to life, it feels like you yourself are walking down the streets and looking at the beautiful landscapes. I also like the way the author describes the angel rising from the lake, it is so magical and mystical.

My favourite part of this book is when Clary and Jace spend the night together before the big battle. I like this part because even though they can't be together and their love is forbidden they just want to spend at least one night just lying next to each other in case they never get to see each other after tomorrow. My favourite character in this book is Armatis (Luke's sister) because after hating her brother for being a downworlder and thinking he was dead for many years, she helps him and realises that he is still the brother she once loved even though he is now a werewolf.

Overall, I thought that this book was superb just as the first two books were, I will definitely be continuing with the series and will surely be recommending this book to others.
